Happy Friday! It’s the beginning of the Three Rivers Art Festival, and we have a special blog post from our current interns Clorisa and Melissa:
Those silent folk around Gateway Center haven’t been body snatched or frozen by another life form. Those silent folk are actually realistic bronze sculptures created by 80 year Steward Johnson; grandson of Robert Wood Johnson, founder of “Johnson & Johnson”. These 15 bronze sculptures were strategically placed throughout the Gateway Center by The Laurel Foundation. These life-like sculptures were brought to Pittsburgh simply for the enjoyment of tourists and Pittsburgh Natives. Laurel Foundation’s president Elizabeth J. Tata said “Johnson’s work is a magnet for all because it depicts and celebrates everyday life.” Johnson’s bronze sculptures will be here until August 5.
